Students participated in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. On Tuesday, February 12, Mt. Airy Elementary School third, fourth, and fifth grade students participated in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The students were given words to spell from materials prepared by the Scripps National Spelling Bee program. Students displayed knowledge learned throughout their school experience while competing for top honors.
Tanedia Martin, a fifth grader, claimed first place and James Thompson, a fourth grader, was the second place winner. The following students also earned their way into the final round of the school spelling bee: Rylee Farmer, Lukas Scott, Dylan Waller, Kayla Guill, Allan Santana, Sophia Brooks, Mark Betterton, Tyson Hall and Kenarie Glass. Tanedia and James will participate in the Danville Area Spelling Bee, which will be held at Averett University on Saturday, March 16, 2019.
